The Forum was the first to host a Norwich 12 series concert on November 6th 2011, as the Norwich landmark celebrated its own 10th anniversary.
The Chamber treated The Forum crowd to Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale, which was written and first performed in 1918. This Faustian story focuses on a young soldier who gives his fiddle to the Devil in return for riches and luxury and then battles to regain control of his life. Nigel Rees, presenter of BBC Radio Four's Quote, Unquote, took the role of narrator, and the evening was compered by BBC Radio Three presenter Christopher Cook.
December saw the Chamber Orchestra play in the Atrium of the stunning Marble Hall, the historic home of Aviva (Norwich Union).
Dubbed 'An Italian Serenade' in celebration of the Italian marble used in the construction of the heritage site, the programme featured a range of Italian music, including:
Boccherini - String Quartet in C major (Op. 28 No.4), Puccini - Crisantemi (Op. 70), Wolf - Italian Serenade in G major, Tchaikovsky - Souvenir de Florence (Op. 70).
The first Norwich 12 series concert of 2012 took place at the home of Norwich HEART, The Guildhall.
This unique event saw the music of Elgar, Martinu, and the monumental but rarely performed Kodály Duo for Violin and Cello, accompanied by archive film from Norwich HEART's Digital Heritage Project, bringing the UEA's East Anglian Film Archive alive.
The films, from the early decades of the last century, included a tram ride through Norwich streets in 1902, a visit by royalty, a post-war funeral of a Norfolk heroine and an interesting look at some of the city's fashions in the 1920s.
The fourth concert in the series was held at St Andrew's Hall, and saw special guest Griff Rhys Jones sing excerpts from Gilbert & Sullivan's The Mikado. The Orchestra performed a comic theatre symphony from Haydn, and a piece from Poulenc, narrated by Griff Rhys Jones.
The music played at each venue throughout the year long celebration will differ, making each of the 12 concerts a unique celebration of Norwich's heritage and music.
Details of the remaining concerts can be found right here as soon as they are announced, so make sure you bookmark this page, or follow us on Twitter (@norwichHEART), so you don't miss out.
