Who
Henry Fitzalan Howard (1847 - 1917)
The 15th Duke of Norfolk, Henry Fitzalan Howard, played an important part in political and public life. As Earl Marshal, he was also one of the most important officers of state, supervising and arranging all state ceremonials, coronations and funerals. His committed attitude saw him volunteer for active service in the Boer War in March 1900, stimulating the Daily Telegraph to suggest that ‘modern English history contains no precedent for the patriotic action of the Duke of Norfolk'.
The building of Norwich Catholic Cathedral earned the Duke much praise as a courteous yet determined figure.
